Winter is the perfect time to tuck into hearty Pembrokeshire fare. Enjoy warming meals in nearby havens such as The Galleon, The Swan Inn, or St Brides Inn, where log fires, local ale, and fresh seafood complete the cosy coastal experience. Many cafés stay open throughout the winter, giving you a warm spot to watch the waves roll in.

Exploring the Pembrokeshire Coast for a New Year fitness resolution
Pembrokeshire presents an ideal setting to kickstart your New Year’s fitness resolutions with a burst of activity! Boasting an impressive 186 miles of
coastal paths, the county offers a wealth of options for invigorating walks and trail runs. The renowned Pembrokeshire Coast Path stretches from St Dogmaels in the north to Amroth in the south.
One of the most challenging sections of the Coast Path is the 16-mile journey from St Dogmaels to Newport, featuring frequent and steep hills. Continuing from Newport to Fishguard, and onward from Pwll Deri to Porthgain, this 49-mile stretch showcases breathtaking cliffs and dramatic scenery, making it a favourite for photography enthusiasts.
During the 19th century, Porthgain and Abereiddi rose to prominence through slate mining, brick making and gravel quarrying. Today, Porthgain is a popular tourist village, known for its art galleries, cosy seaside pub and charming café.
From Solva, the Coast Path continues for 12 miles to the coastal village of Broad Haven. This stretch includes some steep climbs before rewarding walkers with expansive sea views on arrival. Broad Haven is home to Atlantic View holiday cottages, and offers a welcoming selection of restaurants, cafés and public houses, making it an ideal place to pause and relax along your journey.
The next stage takes you from Broad Haven to Martin’s Haven and onwards to Dale, before continuing to Neyland—a distance of around 16 miles. Be sure to check tide tables before setting off, as this section includes two tidal crossings. From Neyland, a further 16 miles leads through Angle, Freshwater West and Broad Haven South. Please note that the Coast Path between Freshwater West and Broad Haven South is restricted due to the military base at Castlemartin.
The final leg of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path spans 25 miles from Broad Haven South to the finish line in Amroth. Passing iconic locations
such as Barafundle Bay and Skrinkle Haven, this is one of the busiest and most celebrated sections of the trail. In 2004, Barafundle Bay gained international acclaim, being named among the Top 12 Beaches in the World and “The Best Beach in Britain” by The Good Holiday Guide.
Upon reaching Amroth, celebrate the completion of your journey with a delicious meal at one of the village’s popular restaurants, such as The Smugglers Bar & Grill, well known for its home-cooked, locally sourced food and pirate-themed children’s play area.

Family adventures in Pembrokeshire – A wild Welsh getaway
There’s something timeless about Pembrokeshire that makes it perfect for family adventures. It’s not just the dramatic coastline, golden beaches, or the crisp, salty air—it’s the way this place invites you to unplug, explore, and laugh a little louder. Forget the usual tourist checklist. In Pembrokeshire, family fun takes on a wilder, more imaginative form.
Chase legends on the Preseli Hills
Tales of ancient giants and Arthurian myths drift through the Preseli Hills. Kids can become explorers for the day, hunting for the elusive Bluestones that built Stonehenge. Bring a map, a picnic, and a wild sense of wonder—this is storytelling brought to life.
Coastal cliffs & secret coves
The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is more than a walk—it’s a treasure map. Pack binoculars and become wildlife detectives spotting puffins, seals, and maybe a dolphin or two. Hidden coves and smugglers beaches become the perfect stage for sandcastle kingdoms and salty adventures.
Try coasteering—Pembrokeshire’s own invention. Jump, scramble, and splash your way around the rocky coast (safely guided, of course). For less extreme fun, rock-pooling is like opening a tiny underwater world. Anemones, crabs, and little fish become instant friends.
Castles, craft, and curiosity
From the tall towers of Pembroke Castle to hands-on creativity in local craft studios, there’s plenty to feed curious minds. History here isn’t boring — it’s alive. Dress up as a knight or learn how to felt a dragon. No screens, just stories.
Evenings with fire and sky
Wind down with toasting marshmallows or stargazing under skies so dark they sparkle. Pembrokeshire’s peace is the kind that lingers, long after the holiday ends. This isn’t just a getaway—it’s a chance to reconnect. With nature. With each other. With the joy of simply being outside, together. In Pembrokeshire, every day is a new page in your family’s adventure book.
